OUR STORY
Origins of SWOC: From Humble Beginnings to Woodland Haven
In May 1963, Health & Efficiency magazine featured an article about the establishment of a ‘New Club in the Yeovil/Dorchester/Taunton area.’ Comprising of five couples, all members of the British Sun Bathing Association (later merging with the FBSC to form CCBN), this budding community had yet to find a name or a permanent site. Instead, they embarked on visits to other clubs in the region. By October 1964, as reported in H&E, the group adopted the name South Western Outdoor Club and secured a site, which, though undeveloped at the time, would evolve into the remarkable haven we enjoy today.
